This is from an village of abandoned mudbrick houses dating to the late 19th/early 20th century. Some farmers still reside in the better preserved houses during the summers but its pretty desolate during the winter.
I'll probably have another go at printing this one- I'd like to get a bit more tone in the mudbrick to increase the contrast between the mudbrick and the remnants of the white plaster. Any suggestions? especially on toning to finish this one? Thanks...
Nice image with lots of detail - it looks as thugh the foundations are there but to me this needs more contrast - the shadow areas, for me at least are too light! As to the toning - most people would probably shout selenium but you could get a good tone from using selenium and sepia too that I think would be good for this image.
I think that the orange filter you used made the mudbrick lighter and reduced the contrast with the white plaster. If the site is near why not experiment with different filters. A green filter would get the bricks darker without darkening the white plaster. I like the subject and composition.
Thanks Carl and gma. I tried printing this again last night with some success at adding contrast into the right side, but I will try to reshoot with another filter as well. Perhaps I'll get some help with better light at a different time of day...
Once again thanks for your comments,
James
I recieved this print in the group exchange and the final result is a very nice print indeed! James, if you made yourself a copy you should scan it and post to show the difference.
