Not sure I agree. The foreground gives the tower more distance and a bit of isolation.

Very nice shot. I love the feeling of mystery in the whole thing. I know the scene and you've given it a feel I never experienced before.

Why is the bottom of the tree trunk so light, then it gets nearly black at the top of the frame? Did you burn in the whole top sky of the image?

It's okay to have the tree black, but you should burn down the trunk of tree also, so it's not so obvious.

I didn't do any dodging or burning. Just a straight contact print / scan. This is at the top of a hill, and the shot was taken near sunset -- so the sun was very low on the horizon to the right. So you can see that the brighter areas of the tower, the tree, and the grass all are areas exposed to the sunlight. Farther up the tree there are still some lighter areas when they're facing the sun, but there are also many areas out of the sunlight.

This was also taken with a very wide 90mm lens with extreme rise, so as with a polarizer on a wide lens the character and direction of the light rays changes over the course of the angle of view.

This is really wonderful - I happen to like that sweeping foreground, it really leads you right up to the tower. Very dramatic.

I think it's a nice image. I wish the branch tips never reached the tower. Small conflict there.

Yes, with the composition, it looks like someone placed a giant Chess piece in the middle of your landscape. Nice work!
