Looking up at the ceiling of the lobby of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City. Hand-held, Mamiya RZ67, 50mm f4.5 (most probably wide open), 1/15th of a second, on Kodak Ektar 100.
There is something about Mexico that is both inferior and superior to the USA. The times that I was there, once I passed from the border area, I was not even 'aware' of the USA being so close. I think that people count there and are not mere numbers like here. I disdain not being able to drink the tap water, however, but love the countless hours spent walking around the Zocalo and other areas of the DF. Nasty people in Mexico seem to always be on vacation.
This image is straightforward, does not require mastery of any real sort, but is done well, nevertheless, and stresses the importance to Mexicans of the power of color within their art. Indeed, sometimes color defines their art. - David Lyga
