Mountain Storm

Taken below summit of Sgurr an Fhidleir, a mountain in the northwest Highlands of Scotland.

Was on my stomach in the snow holding tripod down in the very strong wind. Managed just one picture before it was so cold I couldn't move my fingers and the snow spindrift covered the lens...!

As always, it's difficult to do the 617 format justice in a compressed APUG Gallery scan.

Thanks for comments folks.

This photo was taken after a planned photo shoot from the summit didn't materialise. I'd done my homework too - the sun sets behind the summit in Feb, and casts soft light over Stac Pollaidh and Suliven - a landscape that for me means more than anywhere else.

I made a return trip to the summit two weeks later (carrying medium format kit + tripod up mountains is pretty heavy!). I got amazing light, but unfortunately made an elementary error and my shots were all slightly out of focus - that's what happens when you get carried away . I had a wee slip on the way down and broke a rib too. Ouch. Oh well, my pre-visiualised picture will have to wait until next winter...!
