Geepers, Peter. 'Not unlike Matt's killer shot - you had to thread the needle on processing for that range of light - and did it with authority. 100 watt foliage. The inclusion of the rocky spillway seems important for me. The texture, detail & the way it seems to complete the context of the waterfall are a major magnet for my gaze.
Thanks HiHo ! The outcome of this photo was strange. The infrared looking vegetation is dwarf bamboo, and it reflects more light than I thought - about two stops more. I exposed for the shadows on the creek bottom, and except for that weird vegetation, everything else fell into place. This is a straight copy of the negative.
Yeah, there's a huge difference between a Chamonix and a Calumet Green Monster/Black Beast, or even one of the later Calumet monorails. My first 8x10 was a Green Monster, the all-magnesium chassis, and it still weighed a ton, and the bed rail flapped around when closed, making carrying it an exercise in fear (of breaking the ground glass, among other things - but it never did).
