Mom and Dad

I found it really difficult to do a portrait of my parents. They haven't had one done for a long while so I did this one a couple of weeks ago. Why is it I feel more comfortable photographing strangers than people I know? Is it just me? As usual the scan loses the detail in my Moms sweater. It's there in the print.

This is very nicely done.

But it is a bit sad in that we often fail to make portraits of our parents until it is too late. There inevitably will be a time when this portrait will be one of the makers most prized possessions.

Mike, there's a tenderness here that I find hard to describe. Must be the posture of a couple who care about each other, or the son? It seems a lot of this feeling stems from our own mortality, and the love we have for others. "To balance the terror of being alive with the wonder of being alive."
