Misty basin, Col de la Vanoise

I took this shot on our recent hiking trip in the Vanoise National Park in the French Alps. I took my Nikon FM2n with a 25-50 zoom and polariser and loaded it with Rollei IR400 film that I could use for both IR and normal (as here) exposures. For most of my landscape work I generally use my Mamiya 7II or Toyo 45A cameras and I find composing 35mm difficult. When I reviewed this image I found that I'd caught two nice images on one frame! This is the righthand crop and the lefthand crop is also quite interesting. It's interesting how one's brain works despite what the eye sees through the viewfinder!

Gavin, I can't tell you how pleased I was with your comment. I picked up a copy of Eddie Ephraum's book 'Creative Elements' about darkroom techniques for the landscape photographer at the weekend and on reading it I realised that the prints that I'd made that 'worked' were where I engendered a sense of depth so I set out to achieve layering and depth in this print, using some of Eddie's techniques. I'm very glad that it appears to have worked, at least for you!

Wow, that's some dramatic light. I bet the print must really glow. Very nicely done. Let's see the other half.

All the best,
Daniel

Jeez..how'd I miss this? Just wonderful...even slightly frightening.
