Oh, the Kodak miscellaneous thing that smells like cheese. I have a lot of such things. Filter cases, a developing tank, a slide viewer, a darkroom safelight. I'm pretty sure it's the plastic breaking down.
I had to throw away the safelight (it was one of those ones that screw into a socket and came with three filters) because I could smell it across a room.
First nice photo. I think Kodak used cellulose acetate (Tenite) which like acetate film can decompose, usually smells like vinegar. I really am not sure what the cases are but EK made everything possible out of cellulose resins thanks to Kodak Tennessee, which blossomed into Eastman Chemical, alive and thriving as a multi-billion dollar corporation. EK spun it off because it was selling commodity resins. Ha!
