Ahh... a spot I haven't been in many, many years. This area has a special meaning to me, photographically. It is the spot where I exposed my first sheet of Velvia, back in the late 80s. You know, there is another small lake over the little rise in the background, in front of the bells. This is a great shot, it is too bad the scan can't convey the depth I know is in the original transparency.

Robert,

Thanks for the compliment. This was to say the least an extremely almost nightmarish lighting condition. Even with the Heliopan 3 Stop ND Grad the exposure was beyond the capabilities of Fujichrome Velvia 50. As a result, as you point out the scan and very probably even the transparency can not really render the depth of the scene. Even so, the prints in particular are a strong graphic image due to the darkened mountainsides sweeping down from the left and right around the warmly lit Maroon Bells and their reflection. By the way, there is a beaver lodge at the far end of the lake.
