Marie under Sunflower

Marie under Sunflower

Marie R. Wing was over 95 years old when I photographed her, still determined to go on living. She was a suffragist in the 1920's, later a lawyer and politician before women were allowed to do that. The lens I use dosn't quite cover the 8x10 film so a circular image is formed. I didn't invent the technique, but try to use it for my own personal images.

Hmm, Indianapolis, Ohio, Wing. My mother must have known her.

She sounds like an interesting person, and it's a great shot.

There's a great deal of warmth in this picture. I love the sunflower over her...it's like they're both just basking in the sun together. Lovely.
