g'day Aeis,
nice series, great model/s, interesting idea, but I think the images are too 'good', they somehow lack that something extra, an old worldliness or a sense of mystery or 'something'

Yeah, I know. There are lots of things I want to do with them, but for posting them here, I have no way to do anything creative past the initial picture taking. Once I get into a darkroom and doing the prints myself, I'll be messing around with some filters and whatnot to try and add something to them that way.

I do have some other shots that add more of an old world look to them, but they have either been modified with photoshop, or just plain didn't turn out well.

hi Aeis,
PS and darkroom tricks are not the only way to add something

how about late or early light to change the angle of shadows and add texture

perspective changes and the use of different focal lengths

careful in camera cropping so as not to chop off arms, fingers, hands, toes, feet etc

compositions that show the subject in their environment, not just the subject

hope this gives some ideas for your next shoot

I've been trying to get the shoots scheduled for later in the day, but since it's a group project, most of the people involved can only get out at about 2pm in the afternoon *grumbles* I'm going to see if I can't get shoot scheduled with fewer photographers at late afternoon or early-mid morning times.

Alot of my cropping on these photos so far was done to eliminate things in the background that really clashed with the scene (like all the construction equipment off to the right of where the model is in this picture). Our original plan had been to use a different section of the park, but some kind of asian festival was going on in the park that we didn't know about.

One of our next shoots is going to be Nubian themed though, and we're trying to get the owner of an old quarry/sand pit to let us use it for the location, hopefully eliminating that reason for cropping.

Sometimes you just gotta work with what you've got

Thanks for posting more, it was me who asked for them. Ray makes some excellent points and you should expand on that you have already done.

It's always a great idea to keep revisiting your shoots, be it landscape or portraiture, to hone your skills. Good luck on your next shoot, and don't forget to post!
