This is a hand tinted bromoil. It started from two 35mm negatives sandwiched together in the enlarger and exposed onto a chlorobromide paper. The upper negative was an image of snow to give the print additional texture. It was then bleached and tanned to remove the silver and prepare the gelatin layer for lithographic ink. After a 15 minute soak in water the gelatin layer swells and a relief is formed on the surface of the paper. The ink was then applied with a hog-hair bromoil brush. The highlights reject the ink and the shadows accept it. After the ink was dry I applied three colors of pastels to the print and coated it with a matte final fixer.
