I was pleased to finally see the glowing foliage that I have been expecting, but I was actually startled when I saw the mill building in the print. I hate to use this characterization, but it reminded me of the HDR effect so popular with the digital crowd these days. The building has a depth that I have not achieved in a print before. I guess it has something to do with increased local contrast as a result of the infrared film. It may not translate in the on-screen image, but I got the scan as close to the original print as I could.

With apologies for having blown my own horn, I would like to hear what others think of the print. And from those with infrared experience, validation (or denial) that the infrared film produced the depth.

Dan your learning curve seems to be hitting new heights with the production of this beautiful print. You have achieved a lovely quality to it with a strong building against a soft and light background. The tone is also a nice addition to your shot. Tim Rudman always claimed that a combination of Infrared and Lith printing was a match made in heaven, maybe that's an area you might like to explore? The only negative comment I can make is the apparent speed of the mill wheel (due to the long exposure no doubt) is out character with the mood of the overall image.
 
Vincent: thanks for your comments. I always appreciate your insightful critiques. I have Tim's books with his examples of infrared negatives lith printed, and at some point hope to explore that avenue. You are right about the mill wheel. It was barely turning as evidenced by the trickle of water flowing over the top, but an 8 second exposure gave a different impression.
 
Dan,Quite impressed with this image. I have little IR experience and so I am at the I suck at this level, but viewing yuor print gives me hope. Not only is the IR pleasing but the composition flows well.Personally I like the spinning of the wheel, just wish I could see some wather involved. Not certain that is possible.Great image.
 
Dan it looks great! It would be just another mill and water wheel shot without the movement. The movement sets it apart from the rest, nice work.
 
Regardless of mill wheel speed I think it is a lovely print and exstremly well done. And I disagree that you suck at it. I have seen and worked with those who really do and you ain't it, Pal. You good. Keep at it. I love IR work. Might suggeswt a slight slip upward in the overall contrast of the print to emphasize the IR effect of the trees at the top. Not much.Logan
 
My favorite image of the week. At first did not realize it was IR, just thought you had yellow leaves and high contrast. Took me awhile to realize something wasn't right. Makes me want to buy some IR film. This has a lot of potential for toning as well.
 
A really inspiring image, which makes me want to take some IR film out the freezer and load up. I like the movement as these types of buildings are not normally in use or moving, so it adds extra interest.
