Ma' shoes

Me and my friend were trying still lifes and i used some of my shoes, I ended up recently using this for a photo contest that the shoe company website is having.

pentax zx60, 28-80mm at 50mm i think
I find the background very distracting: the scene looks arranged but not composed
The color of the backgound imho should have been complementary to the color of the shoes, either white either black.

Good attempt, but Marc is right. The support object behing the backdrop (is it an armchair?) is as distracting as the cloth choice. I think white would have been the color to go with on the cloth. Keep playing with that pyramid idea, it looks sort of interesting...

...also (this just popped in) what do you think of a similar arrangement in the hallway of a school, playing with depth of field, with lockers as a backdrop??? I'm seeing it in my head, I'm not sure how it would look on paper...

thanks for the ideas, yeah the backdrop thing is all we could do but the hallway against the lockers is a pretty good idea so i'll try it sometime this week in my photo tech. class.

Think about a 50mm or a wide angle lens. They'll let you get nice and close for detail and have fun with depth of field. I'd be carefull in the hallway too, because they can be very "busy" backgrounds. You may also need a filter for the flouro lights...
...see, now the I've gone and made this a complicated shot...sorry bout that!

Gym lockers would be an interesting idea...Library would be another....nah, these sneaks wouldn't be caught dead in a library...cafeteria, maybe...
