Luva - Co-owner, Southern Swank

After years of shooting buildings in Raleigh's commercial warehouse district, I started adding portraits of the people who work in the buildings.

This subject, the co-owner of a tattoo parlor, happened to be a model in her spare time, so I learned how much easier it is to work with people who like being in front of the camera.

Now I find myself wanting to do portraits more and more and buildings less and less.

I'm learning as I go, so all comments, good bad and ugly, are welcome!

Wonderful! I really like this portrait and am intrigued by the apparent personality.

I like the arms as is. They show off the tats and make me think of a Wild West shoot-out. I can just imagine her drawing her ink gun.

The sign on the door is another great touch and adds to the overall mood of the image. There is danger all around in this image.

You should collaborate with her again. She's a great subject. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your portraits.

Great portrait, but what a terrible thing to do to your body. It's fine when she is this age but can you imagine how horrible this will look when she is in her 70's. But then again I'm probably too conservative.

I would heed the sign!

Fantastic. I'm with Murray. What a beautiful woman - I always wonder how the markings will wear with age, but right now she looks great.

nice portrait, the stance she is taking is very ascertive, it seems. Very attractive "face".

Though my comment has nothing to do with the image, I agree with you 100% Tex. I am certainly not judging her, for it's not my place but God's, but even Lev 19:28 aside, it really leaves me wondering about a person's self image (or lack thereof) and their apparent sense of self-loathing when they would utterly deface their body in such a way. I guess, like you, I too am just too conservative, not that there is anything wrong with it. We all have our opinions, I just base most of mine on the Bible.
