I am currently exploring the Bromoil technique..
the technique in it self has to be more polished, but that is a matter of rehearsal..
however; I am searching for a type or types of images that "goes" with this technique, as I fell that a technique in it self is nothing but a technique..
"this might look too vintage" ... yes! I think you have a point. This is so spot on, 19th century, that it loses it's effectiveness (to me only of course) as a contemporary image. That said, it's very well done.
I love the technique... I am just bothered a little by the composition. the model seems crowded with her head so close to the upper right portion of the frame... yet there is much space taken up by the floor and the bed... I think a 1/3rd crop from the bottom would give balance and still maintain a sufficient amount of the texture in the blanket on the bottom... overall nice job!!!
esandford: you are right about the tight position in the top..I think I failed a little when applying the emulsion, as ther is a little more space in the negative..
About the composition: I have made a lot of images where I put the model high up in the (square) negative form. I like it, but I'll see if you're right about the crop.
(In my head it would them be too "normal" (?))
gandolfi: after reading esanfords comment and studying the composition a little more, I agree with your placement in the upper 3rd of the frame. It adds a a certain unique quality to the picture that I did not originally detect. Good job!
