Lowering the flag.

Lowering the flag.

I was shooting the Mt. Soledad Veteran's Memorial when a loud whistle was blown right behind me. I turned to see this man beginning to lower the flag. I took off my cap, stood at attention, and held it over my heart. I noticed that he was just stuffing the flag into his bag and didn't think that was right, so I asked him if he would like help folding it. It was windy and it took quite some time to get it folded up and properly stowed. My wife saw what was going on and got some very good (digital) pictures of us. When we were finished, he gave both of us Mt Soledad Memorial flag pins. It was the highlight of my vacation, and one of the highlights of my life.
