Lost Negative

Many of my 4 x 5 negatives from the 1980s were lost due to water damage. A friend recently sent me this scan of a 4 x 5 contact print I gave him. It is the only one I know of. The technical details are based on the way I worked then.

locally owned shops, big plate glass windows and awnings..the stuff of memories. Where is this?

Amsterdam Avenue, just north of West 101st Street. I'm guessing 1985. It's not so different there now. Chain stores, and trendier looking storefronts have moved in, but there's still lots of this sort of thing.

I thought so. Lived on 95th for years. My parents were married at the church on 96th

Know the street and the church well. But you're Jersey Vic. I live in Bay Ridge Brooklyn now, but I'm originally from Orange, NJ.

It was an exercise in humility. I don't like being called Vic and never wanted to live in NJ (having been raised in The Bronx).
Glad you found this print ! No it hadnt changed much when I left 5 years ago. You can still buy goat and cafe con leche just down the block
