But for the curvature of the earth, one can almost sense being able to see either ocean from this point, it is so barren and flat. And, that poor scraggly little scrap of of tree to the left too, i almost feel sorry for it. Nice composition, Peter, the big sky view with those spare clouds make it even better. I am curious, where is all the thermal shimmering mirage effect?
Hi Michael. The Kalahari, like most deserts, can be very cold at night. The temperature ranges from -2C to over 30C at noon. Those mirage effects can be seen when light bounces off the white salt pans and the layers of air above have marked temperature difference.
Then you can see the strange shimmering.
