I wanted something different from the standard tourist photo of the Houses of Parliament. I was in London for a business meeting but my colleague phoned to say she would be over an hour late so I went for a walk with my camera.
Given the presence of the sun, I am surprised that the yellow hasn't darkened the sky more. Is this due to the London haze that appears to have at last worried the Mayor?
I suspect it's the time of year (minimal UV), latitude (yellow filters don't have a dramatic effect this far North), angle of the sun (low) and the mist. The mist isn't pollution it's just the type of mist that rolls in up the Thames from the sea. It's been misty out in the countryside too. I wanted the mist in the photo; otherwise I might have tried an orange filter which might have reduced it. There was actually a clear blue sky overhead but there were a lot of Herring Gulls around. Usually they come inland (following the river) when there is bad weather approaching.
