Was out spending the day testing my Wehman 8x10 and Cooke XVa. This is a shot of an old preserved steam locomotive in front of Shinbashi Station in Tokyo, a C12 class engine. For some reason the scanner is cutting off the top and bottom of the scan, and I cant correct it, will try again later. Dark room is currently at near freezing temps, so negative scan until it warms up. Any and all comments are greatly appreciated.
I like the (unintended) crop at top and bottom on this image. It draws you into the center of focus, the connecting rod. Hope the print works out as well as the scan, certainly a keeper on this one. Nice detail shot. tim
The depth of the image is amazing, the vertical split created by the counter weight on the wheel distracted me at first but I now feel the connecting rod really creates an horizontal anchor to the image and the distraction has gone. That metal looks as though it was machined yesterday. Very nice.
Thank you all for the kind words! I am looking forward to trying to actually print this one. There is a group of people that paint and polish the locomotive once a month or so, thats the only way they can keep it shiney. I was lucky enough to be there right after they finished, so it gleamed. A friend gave me some Azo and Amidol. Once the temp warms up slightly, I will give it a try.
