Live Oaks are awesome -- and something we don't have in Pennsylvania. Back when I was entangled with some control system startups in Mobile AL and coastal South Carolina, it's mind boggling to stand near some of them.
It's interesting to see this one and the "sleeper in a park bench"one next to one another The sleeper on the park bench looks much flatter and perhaps due partly to that, much less vibrant from a viewer's point of view. It may be one of those negatives which due to the closeness of the mid- range of tones and it being b&w thee is little that can be done
I wonder what a higher grade would do? My feeling is that there may be no easy answer here to the sleeper shot

Good question. It was taken the same day a block down the street from the Live Oak which has other trees around and filters the light. The park bench is in an open area with young birch trees and open sky. The camera meter is inoperative so my metering could be suspect. It was an overcast day.
