Pentaxuser, the tone is a combo of Forte warmtone paper, Zonalpro warmtone developer, and a good, strong selenium toning. The scanning process does shift the color a bit more red than it really is, but it's not far off.
Kevin, you've hit on something very near and dear to me, which is the psychological/relational aspect of people photography. As you've said, so much emphasis is placed on the photography and so little placed on the people. I'm passionate about making connections and using photography to make people feel valued. In this case, I had maybe five minutes with this girl (hadn't ever met her before) to form a meaningful bond and record it on film. It's a challenge and an opportunity that I really love.
I'll try to write something sometime soon, but I'll say upfront that I can get kinda preachy on the subject.
Cheryl,
This is a lovely thoughtful portrait of a little girl. Her eyes and expression really pull me in.
I recently attended one of Cheryl's workshops. I walked away from it with a whole new perspective on making connections with those I am photographing. Cheryl is an amazing instructor!
