Lincoln Cathedral Nave (looking West)

Early morning before many visitors arrived; sheltering from snow outside.
A4 enlargement from 35mm. Slightly weird; I am on the centre line but the centre of the ceiling is not directly above me -it doesn't line up. See above the West window where the builders' error was corrected

@Eric Rose No there is no perespective correction. This is just a darkroom print that has been scanned. I started a thread on using Schiempflug on the enlarger to correct perspective (https://www.photrio.com/forum/threa...posure-olympus-om-35mm-film-equipment.158117/) before I went on this trip but so far I have not used it. I tried to avoid using my 24mm lens during the trip and to use as long a focal length as possible so as to avoid the problem in the first place. In fact I am wondering now whether I actually used my OM Zuiko 50mm 1.4 for this shot. I’m not sure it’s wide enough to have been the 28mm but it probably is. I took a limited set of lenses with me; 24, 28, 50, 100, 200. Except the 200mm they are tiny and take up little space. One of the reasons I love the OM system so much.

"...you would think the builders were permanently drunk." Thirsty work, and probably safer than drinking the water ;-).

BTW I've learnt a lot from this thread, thanks.

@johnnyh Yes, that is true. They did not generally drink water as it was too dangerous (especially in cities). They drank "small beer". Weak beer. Even children drank it but it was very weak in alcohol. They did not know why at the time but boiling the water to make the beer killed the germs. Glad the thread was useful. I am grateful for the all the help and encouragement I have had from the kind people on APUG/Photrio despite my sometimes ill-judged comments.

PS: Happy Easter!

Stephen

Late but appropriate: This is an indication of how photography is able to capture all and do so with extreme aesthetics. "Simple" to take but revealing all with precision and emphasis. - David Lyga

@David Lyga You are very kind. I enjoyed being in the magnificent space and having the time to take photographs. I haven't been a tourist in my own country for a long time and I had forgotten how much I enjoy it.

not a big observation, but the softly lit floor is a sort of humble beauty.

@jtk Yes that light also seems to give a sense of peace and stillness. If the weather had been good on this trip and the sun was shining this photo would probably not have worked. I was sorry that we had such bad weather for a much needed holiday but it had a silver lining.
