Life & Death

I made a few plates of this in my garage. I am having some silver challenges again. It's an over iodized silver bath, which means heavy maintenance is needed. There are black pinholes on the top half of the plate that are the giveaway of an over iodized silver bath.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Andy. Is the plate at max bellows draw?

Actually Thomas, its got a lot more bellows left in it, i just had a shorter lens on... The silver is boiling down as we speak after i neutralized it with ammonium hydroxide to ph 7 and sunned it. It made a lot of crud precipitate out, and after the boil down, I'll rehydrate it with distilled water, check specific gravity, and add silver nitrate as needed. Then i will add nitric acid to bring the acidity back to Ph 4 and it will be like new again. the black dots I got were a visual warning that the bath needs mantenance...

I see. I was silently wondering to myself what a tighter crop might look like, but then realize that depth of field probably becomes a real issue. At f/4 you have maybe 1/8" or so to play with, depending on focal length (I imagine a 12" or so)? Your work on life/death/weirdness is interesting. Keep it up, brother.
