Libby - Untitle Nude

Working again with Libby this past weekend: we're both quite happy with this one. I'm going to try a higher contrast print when I get the chance to print again, but I can't wait to hear your thoughts.

This print is on Buxton paper which is slightly colder than my usual Arches Platine, and it's got a rougher surface which makes scanning harder. But it's also got a certain sensuousness that I've yet to see on another paper.

As usual I'm very interested in your opinions about composition, emotional content, or anything else that grabs you. Thanks in advance.

Ian, you've out done yourself.. this is as nice as any I have ever seen. I do agree about trying for a higher contrast- please post if you do..

Wonderful light in this one. I may be the only voice for this level of contrast, but I love the softness. I also like the way that you've used the frame. Very nicely done.

This is very well done, Ian. Perfectly framed... all the negative spaces around the figure each has it's own sculptural quality, just as with the nude. And the pearl earring is a lovely detail.

I'll have to see the print to comment on contrast, but I like it as is here, and I'm sure it's even better in person!

Thanks all. I don't think it needs much more contrast: more of a tweak than a radical change. But the print would be better (and match the others more closely) with a touch more.

Dave - I always use artificial light in the studio. To get adequate depth of field I need to shoot at about f45 which needs buckets of photons to work (especially with up to 1m of bellows extension). I use a pair of Bowens GM750+ with 1m softboxes, usually one up in the air and one at floor level.

The twisting motion works well in this image. I don't think it needs more contrast as a singular image, but if you are going to show it with other images as a series you should make them match.

I have to agree with the others in that this is one of your best. The framing and pose are spot on and I couldn't imagine how you could improve on it.
The contrast looks pretty good on my monitor, but of course you need to see the print to tell if it needs more oomph or not.
Have to agree with Bill about the smoothness of it.
