Libby and I have decided to collaborate on a small portfolio of a dozen or so 10x8 Pt/Pd prints. This, I expect, will be one of them. What do you think?
Thanks everyone. I think the white space in the lower left corner is essential because it establishes the width of her leg and balances the composition. If I put my thumb over it, then everything looks slightly wrong to me. Does that make sense or am I rationalising a flaw?
Ian, I love the colour and smoothness of this image; this is what appeals to me about pt work, although I have not got started yet. The jury is out considering the lower left corner. It is a distraction for me but I see your point. Just an example of how two different people would approach the same print.
The lower left corner doesn't bother me, and overall I think this is beautiful.
Just a thought, though. If you had left a thin bit of negative space around the wrist (to the right) would it have balanced with the lower left corner? I think that would have given the whole right side a more interesting "shape" of negative space with good tension in framing the figure. 2 cents.
You must have been listening to my internal dialogue when I composed the picture Suzanne I considered having a bit more space on the RHS, but it felt like then I'd need some more on the left to stay balanced. Then I'd be further away so there'd be more on the top and bottom also. Then it would be a different picture. Does that make sense?
Now knowing what this type of print looks like in real life, i am sure this print looks exceptional like the others of the series. I look forward to seeing this too. It is another classic print in my opinion. The corner is not bothersome to me personally.
