I have never tried this kind of shot from the hip but it seems to me that with a fairly small margin of allowable error before you are in danger of cutting off the far-right figure or at least part of her, you have to be very lucky, have an awful lot of practice or risk a few shots with slight movement of the camera which might draw attention to what you are doing.

A miss here isn't a bad effort

Not something I usually attempt. I did 2 on that roll and they were both near misses.
