"Gift-wrapped heart". This is the best of your (or anyone else's) mordancage I've ever seen. You could license photos like this to greeting card companies.
This is amazing winger - really an inspiration. I was desperate to go to Elizabeth Opalenik's mordancage workshop in Montana this summer, but work got in the way of that. Hopefully next year. I really love this technique and have some ideas of the types of images I'd like to try with it.
Thanks all! Moose - Elizabeth is exactly the person to learn this from. She's great. Bob - You start with a silver gelatin print with dark black areas (fixed and well washed) and put it in a bath of water, copper chloride, hydrogen peroxide, and acetic acid. It doesn't usually need to sit long, then it goes into several water baths. As you do it, the darkest emulsion lifts off the paper. You have some control over how much, but it isn't easy to completely control it if you want some of the veils to stay. It needs to be very well washed and then you can redevelop it (though it will still be visible) - sometimes that will add other colors - then more washing and let it dry. If you want the veils of emulsion to stay in certain places, you can let it dry so they're stuck down and then wash it. I do them outside. You don't want to inhale the fumes. Really. I've also had better luck with it on warmer days.
If anyone wants to see great ones, google Elizabeth Opalenik.
