Laying fiber (Ducatel)

I learnt a few things the other today.

1. Even if Fuji pack films self terminate, it is prudent to separate the print from the negative before an hour is gone (see print). Even if it was 10 below.

2. Alkaline batteries in the Land camera give up within 10 minutes of being exposed to sub zero conditions. Must remember to get hold of lithium batteries.

3. Fiber-laying companies pay no attention to pedestrians, rather like car drivers. (Ducatel provide pipes for underground cabling)

Even if it suffers from a number of technical mishaps, I rather liked the result.

Kinda exciting to have fiber going into the neighborhood.

Lithium batteries don't like extreme cold either. Nicad/nimh is better, but not great. Best bet is to keep them warm before you go out. I got up and out one morning in the dark when it was -20f to go photograph sea smoke as the sun came up, camera was already packed in the car and ready. Digital camera gave me two shots and the battery went flat.
