This shot was done in a welding shop owned by a friend of mine named Lauren Danley at metalisgood.com. She has been a machinist, welder and pipe fitter for most of her life and does some amazing things.
Foma 200 8X10 film developed in PMK Pyro, shot at F32 for 30 seconds. Soon to be a contact print, I scanned the negative to see what it looks like today. Shot 8 sheets of film, so will be posting more when they are printed.
Lucky Girl! That looks like the old radial arm drill that I used to use when I was an apprentice fitter in a tool making shop many years ago - as a matter of fact, yes it is the same! I can imagine operating it now.
Thanks!
(OK, sorry, not much of a comment on the photo, just my memory....)
Nicely composed, full range of tones, and the metal really looks like metal! Obviously Lauren likes a Clean Machine - most tools I've seen in small shops show a lot more grime, drooling cutting oil, and the like.
Something about cast iron and "analog" photography - just go together.
