I love this - a wonderful photo of a what normally would be considered a pretty mundane subject. I like this to shoot this kind of closeup myself, but must admit without the success you had with it.

Thankyou for your comments! I lost track of the number of times I walked past this tree. It's amazing how the right kind of light can transform a subject. It just kinda stood out on this particular occasion.

The crust textures are a Fungi known as Bleeding Stereum.
