LaRocca Shellfish& Seafood

From a series of images depicting the olde Fulton Fish Market in Lower Manhattan, NYC which recently relocated to new digs after 184 years. This print was made from a paper negative derived from a Holga shot. I'm seeking to capture the attributes and atmosphere of the earliest paper derived photography to capture these buildings from the same period.

(I'm having a really hard time getting detail in my shadows when I scan and wonder how the rest of you do it &/or what scanner you're using)

It is such an interesting series of images, Vic. It would be swell to be able to see all of them together some time, to appreciate the concept better.
I like the out of focus quality on this.

In regards to scanning, I use a $99 Epson flatbed. Seems to work OK for web stuff.

This is one of the things I love about photography. One could argue that on the list of DO NOTs you pretty much hit all of them - technically speaking. Yet, I am with Thom - I love this image, and the previous ones - they are so full of mood, and a timeless quality, almost like a portal to another time. I really enjoyed looking, so thanks for sharing.

I too don't like how my images scan - loss of shadow detail, wierd artefacts, sometimes mushyness... but that is compared to print. Compared to most scans I see on the web, they seem pretty much par for the course. I use a Lexmark X75 all in one that I bought for $10 at a garage sale.

Very cool ! re: scanner - I have a 99.99 dollar flatbed HP scanjet 3970 that seems to do an okay job, the bed is only 8 1/2 x 11". I don't have Photoshop, have a simple pic program that can crop and change image size.

i love the dreamy feel you have gotten here.

regarding the scanner ...
i have an epson 4780 and i waiver between vuescan and silverfast ...
wish it cost me 99$

beautiful image victo! this gives a great opportunity to use my new favorite word-bokeh...i love the bokeh your holga produced.
todd

Thanks Todd but the bokeh in this instance was done in post production..SAY WHAT?
I didn't have my contact sheet and the paper I used for the negative pressed tightly together-SO it's the bokeh of my contact printer that you find so fetchin' ..those darn Holgas are way too sharp.
RE:tongue:aper negatives-who knew, besides John Nanian of course, that something so simple and primitive (and fun) could give one so many new avenues for expression? Bokeh.
