I am not sure I know what you mean about cropping the very top. There is sky between the top most boulder and the top eege (I tried it both ways on the ground glass though)
These were made in Southern California, near Joshua Tree (about 20 miles away). There are some grafittied boulders on the side of 247---I am going to start photographing them as much as I can. After making five negatives, and seeing the very hateful and disgusting things that people think they have to paint on the side of otherwise beautiful rocks, I became almost physically sick. It makes me wonder if that was something that Robert Adams felt while photographing in the Pacific North West for what he included in his book, Turning Back.
