Nothing wrong with sunsets, I shoot a lot of them myself. I find the sun is really too small in this image, and the cloud formation not different enough to make it stand out. My preference is for a strong foreground, in this case I would look for a spot closer to the shore where you can include rocks, sand, etc. Something that will lead the eye closer towards the setting sun. Also, consider obtaining Cokin G1 and G2 filters (split neutral density) and using a more highly saturated film like Velvia F100. A good job.
Roteague, I appreciate your comments and the advise on the filters. I will keep them in mind when I attempt another sunset. When this was taken I was standing on a ridge almost 100 feet above the water and the thought of climbing back up was not too appealling.
