Lake Michigan Ice

Lake Michigan Ice

Ice formation along the shoreline of Lake Michigan just north of Muskegon, Michigan. These ice mounds form at the edge of the ice pack when pounding waves go under the ice and then explode up through a crack or hole. This particular mound was broken through by the waves. The photo was taken one harsh winter and is nearly a half mile from shore.

That's a beauty, Ken!

beautiful light and texture. difficult subject as it was shot against the sun on slide film but you nailed the exposure just right.

Ken, were you in a canoe? I prefer the lake around Labor Day. Very nice image. Great choice of capture equipment and media. Bill Barber
