This is my first attempt at split toning. I don't know if this is how it is supposed to look, but I like the print. It's not as sharp as the straight print, but that's ok. I used Selenium 1:4 followed by Kodak's Sepia (old). The Selenium was done by partial toning followed by a partial bleach. I think the print looks better than the scan, but they're pretty close.
I think from now on I will tone all my prints. I really like this look.
The wideangle lens gives the image a nice 'rush' sensation as every converges on the camera. Split toning really helps improve contrast and bring out details in the upper mid-tones which is why I use it for most of my prints. It can also produce nice layering effects using differential colours between shadow and mid-tone.
Thank you all, I'm really looking forward to more toning sessions. Did I mention the addiction? I like the (if I may call it that) impressionistic feel it gives. Someday... I'd like a wider lens for my 4x5. 90 is good but I think I would like something comparable to the one used for making this image.
