Wonderful trestle over Ladner Creek. The line was abandoned in '59. It was just too expensive for CPR to maintain. This stretch of the Kettle Valley line runs through the Coquihalla, which can get a tremendous amount of snow, was prone to slides. A big slide is what did it in.
Definitely one of the best ten or so images I've ever seen in my 12 or so years on APUG. This has everything. Superb lighting, great compositional viewpoint, IR effect.
When I first looked at this I did not have my head square on to the (LCD) monitor, and the shadows were really dark. It looked good that way too. It is an interesting combination of industrial and landscape aesthetics.
Thank you all for your comments! @oolalajp, yes you can still walk across it...but at your own peril! I walked across it once and then realised that once over, I had to turn around and do it again...with 8x10 over my shoulder! @awty, getting down to that spot was scary. The sharply angled ground consisted of very loose gravel all leading to a cliff. Probably won't do that again!
I really admire this composition. The lighting combined with the IR effect create such drama along with the appearance of the bridge leaning back.
And then the energy from the diagonals echo throughout the photograph. Just wonderful !
