Solarizing is done by exposint the negative (or positive) during development. The highlights develop rather quickly and will not "accept" more light after that - But the undeveloped or underdeveloped areas will still have some or a LOT of unexposed silver which after the extra light desperately try to develop - almost like a race..The sooner you add extra light the more the darkareas turn light - the later you do it, the more subtle it will appear..EX: a film has to be developed for 6 min. Then develop for ex. 4 min - take off the lid and take up the film in daylight - only for a very few seconds - put it back and finish the development...Sometimes it works fantastic - sometimes not, but it is alvays fun!(Where the light areas and the dark (which now is light) meet, at tiny line will appear.. that's the Mackey's line.. Always the same size, so if you're using small format and then enlarge your image, then this line will be prominent... LF and contact copying and it will be subtle... Using this tecnhique in the darkroom with paper the line will be white..)
