I might be wrong but I think this cat is in fact cleaning over its ear with a paw rather than sleeping on its paw in the way a child can sleep with its head on its arm and you've caught its paw in exactly the right place which isn't easy. If so, then as it is in fact fully awake and alert, this needs to be "disguised" and the slight out of focus does this, completing the illusion.

So yes it works and well done. Good animal shots require a lot of patience and lightning quick reactions

I'd say so, if you were going for an impression or a feeling.

For some reason, I saw this and right away thought of a book cover image or some such similar use.

Excellent Thomas !

ANY picture of a kitten works for me but the softness here I thinks adds to it

Thanks for your helpful comments!

Fergus was not sleeping, but resting. Pentaxuser - he does sleep in funny ways some times.

It was meant to have a dreamy, half asleep, half awake, soft look to it - sort of whimsical.

Thanks again,

- Thomas

It does work!
A dead sharp image is certainly an arresting thing but this sharpness is an obstacle to the interpretation of the viewer who is imprisoned in the details. With a soft and slightly out-of-focus picture, the viewer is free to project whatever comes from his mind or his heart onto the picture. This is what I like about this picture Thomas.
