Three main Columbine Flowers in a field of wildflowers taken near Woody Creek, CO. during a workshop with a friend. Holy Cross Mountains in the background. Camera on a focusing rail and the flowers were about 20" from the front of the lens hood. Photo taken between gusts of wind, windy. Needed as much depth of field and as high a shutter speed as possible.
Thank you for the kind words. The photo which was very difficult to make, due to wind, was taken at about 2:30 PM on the Aspen side of the Holy Cross Mountains (the other side is the Vail side). As I mentioned the camera was loaded on a focusing rail to position the camera so that the 24mm lens hood was about 20" from the Columbine Flowers. I needed as much depth of field and as high a shutter speed as possible. Even stopped down to f22 the depth of field actually only holds to about 10 feet with the focus at about 28" (but sharp enough to identify where the photo was taken). I took the photo between gusts of wind (a bit windy) and prayed. The photo title comes from a friend who noted that the center Columbine (which is the state flower of Colorado) looks like it is Kissing the Cloud. Rich
No worries. BTW, I don't know if I ever told you, but I grew up in Colorado. I've been up in this area many times, which is why I am amazed - I know how the wind gets.
Thanks for the comments regarding the color. And for those that complain that Fujichrome Velvia is "Disneychrome" this image was probably taken at about 8000 feet. The sky was a traditional Colorado Blue- deep blue, the fields were very green, and the Columbine Flowers were just about the colors in this image. Rich
Thanks for the very kind words. Yes, I certainly have to agree the Columbine is a very beautiful flower, there is a reason that it is the state flower for Colorado.
