This is a complete cheat but it works... It's a square negative printed to 8x10, using the spacing for that extra blackness on the left hand side.
Printed as Grade 5. I think I'm a high contrast junkie.
Typewriters, pipe rack, and a book... This Kirkaldy sounds like someone I could like! Interesting use of the square format. It feels very enveloping to me, sort of like you captured a quiet time alone in the early morning. I've no idea when you took the photo, but in spite of the contrast it has a very soft look.
Pipe Rack? I think that's a bunch of stamps. He did materials testings for construction work. Tested the materials for the Sydney Harbour Bridge and in the Comet Airplane crashes. I think that's a calculating machine too, the thing that looks like a typewriter. Interesting little museum anyway. This website has a little blurb on it: http://www.touruk.co.uk/london_museums/kirkaldytesting_museum1.htm
Just a little peeved about my glass negative carrier. There's a few specks of dust after much cleaning with the anti-static cloth. And you can sort of see the line where the negative stop on the left hand side if you look VERY closely at bottom half of the photo but I think it's pretty unnoticeable in this case. Unless you know and are looking for it, it's not obvious.
