temps in the mid 40's winds 35-40 and rain
there's a walkway and observation platform on top, people running to leave as we were arriving. it's a quarter mile walk from the parking lot to here
Set up, spot meter underside of span, place in zone 3 and shoot. readjusted and figured for reciprocity, caught camera as it was blowing over--packed up and ran for truck- only shot of the day
Interesting perspective on the bridge. For giggles, I mapped it on Google Maps, then plotted hotels nearby. It came up with several in nearby towns, and then the Federal Correctional Facility. The rates are cheap, but checkout time's a bitch- 5-10 years with time off for good behavior.
Quite an interesting composition. I have shots of it from many years ago, but haven't been out there since the tornado damage. Getting just one shot is OK if it's one like that!
Thanks Rick, good link there. I read an article in a railfan magazine sometime after the tornado induced collapse that described the chief engineer arguing whether to replace the foundations when the bridge was reconstructed with steel. He felt they needed to be redone to deal with lateral stresses, but management overruled him. And it took a hundred years or so, but what happened was pretty much the way he predicted! There are a few shots at the start of this gallery taken with my B&J in 1968: http://www.pbase.com/dw_thomas/oldies4x5 I've been there at least once more recently than that.

Great photos, we've been hiking up there since around the time you were there. I wish I still had my original shots from back then. There were some of the original round iron poles on site a few years ago, don't know what happened to them.
