King John's Castle in Limerick City, Co. Limerick, Ireland. This castle was built in 1200 on the orders of England's King John. It sits on the River Shannon, which can be seen in the foreground. The photo was taken in August of 1985. This print was made in July, 1998 on 8” x 10” paper.
Can't say for sure, as it varies, but usually grittier and granier. I am going to try some more someday. Meanwhile, I will paste in the answer I gave back last year:
"As far as comparing color negatives on regular B&W paper vs. panchromatic, I have tried it. The different dye clouds don't register equally on the basically orthochromatic paper, giving the effect of heavy grain. This can vary with each photo, so some can look good, while others might give a "gritty" look. See this web page for a direct comparison: http://brendanquirk.com/32A04.html. Make sure to scroll down on the page."
Thanks for the link. I have printed very few colour negs on Ilford MG but from what I have done my experience seemed to be the opposite. My prints were too grey and lacked contrast but didn't seem any grainier than prints from b&w negs. However i do agree that in your examples the differences you mention are there as you describe them
