Image makes me think of 2 photographers who's work I really appreciate. The obvious is Adams - Robert of course, not Ansel, but my favourite is the late Raymond Moore, his book "Murmurs at every turn" is inspirational.
I believe in making images like this of the every day, mundane, it's too easy to make grandiose images. I do but they have a different place in my portfolios.
On the subject of Ray Moore I went to an excellent photograhy bookshop in Hay-on-Wye, a few years ago (sadly now closed) and was offered some superb first edition signed books, and I bought a few. Turns out speaking to one author/photographer I'd bought the signed copy he'd sent to Ray himself.
Oh my goodness. I'll have to sit down. Ray was the guy, in '73, whose work showed me what photography could do; what it could do that no other medium could. I don't knowingly copy him, I just feel a strong affinity for the kind of thing he did.
Many years after seeing his work, I stayed some time with him, his wife (Mary Cooper, a good photographer in her own right) and young son at their home. 'Murmurs at every turn' is one of my all-time favourite books. I'll post the only picture I ever dared to take of Ray when I find it.
Well thank you, and thank you for your private advice on optimum resolution for uploading - I'll down-res this and repost.
i like the image, i love the comments between you and Ian..now, Ms. Trailer Trash, *wink-wink*...do you cultivate relationships with people like Kenton and Alan for their personalities or just so you can shoot their trailer, their truck and their bare naked trees? Just curious...kat~
He's just this regular guy with more Harleys and BSAs and BMWs and Triumphs and maybe a Vincent (ohmygoodness) than I've seen outside of a museum. Back in the UK I've got a Phelon and Moore 'Perfected Motorcycle' Panther 650 single, by the way. Keighley, Yorkshire West Riding. The Boltmaker's Arms. Timothy Taylor's Golden Best. Ham and eggs at Vince's Cafe, Bradford, with Jackie Wilson on the jukebox. I don't know how to translate this into American, but he's that kind of guy.
curious kat - what happens in the trailer stays in the trailer, OK?
my darkroom mate has a triumph that he has restored. I had a BSA in Germany when in the Air Force. Had a BMW rhere also and was partners with a fellow jet jockey in a Ducati 250cc Mark 3 Diana racer for a time. Am too old and not bullet proof anymore to ride them damn things.
