Katie

Another 11x14 torso, this time of Katie. I'm not sure that I like the shallow depth of field. Any thoughts?

I feel that the shallow DOF accentuates the 3-D effect and makes the image look more true-to-life. I don't see how you can improve on this.

It's not such a problem but her right hand kind of gets lost a little. Becomes more of a lump than a hand if you see what I mean. But I do like the select focus on the eyelash... Maybe same idea but hand more tangled in the hair a little ? Not sure... The rest of the composition doesn't suffer from the DoF choice.

I agree with both previous statements.

I think if it was darker it would not work. this does

Really enjoying this latest work, lovely delicate tones.

Gorgeous, Ian! Simply gorgeous.

This is really lovely Ian.

I can see your dilemma over dof. I agree that the selective focus is effective and concur with Heather about eyelash/hand trade off. However you could have best of both worlds as this looks an ideal pose to use with some swing. Suggest that a plane of focus through eye, breast and somewhere on bicep would work well. This would retain her stomach too which is also a vital element of the wonderful picture (might need to add some tilt too for this). Vary aperture by eye to decide how much of hand/elbow you want in focus - it's the Cooke way of working!

Yes I would buy one, to join my other Leake originals...!
