Karmann - ready to go

A Karmann Ghia! My girl friend had one in college, when I played keyboard and pedal steel guitar in a bar band. It could hold my Fender Rhodes, my single-neck 10-string Emmons pedal steel, a Peavey amp, a six-pack (or two) of beer, and me (all this inside, mind you) while my girl friend drove us to gigs. Ah, so many years (and miles) ago . . . An evocative photograph, most certainly.

When I was younger I did not appreciate these as I do now. Even the emblem is a work of art. The back story of these cars is quite interesting as well.

One of my classmates had a red convertible. Didn't have a V-8 so I never paid any attention at the time.
