Granny was a real pistol. Stricken with polio as a kid she walked with a limp and her left foot turned outward and made it difficult to walk. She broke her hip twice and the last time put her in the wheel chair permanently. Still, she was fiery right up to the end.
I always wished I had gotten her on video but, there were no video cameras back then. I took a fair share of still photos of her and the family, nevertheless. I always thought it odd that she could recall in detail things from the 1930's better than she could something from the week before. Now I know. She passed away in 1984, two weeks before her 90th birthday.
It was just a snap shot. I was glad I did as many photos of them over the years from 1977 till 2012 as I did. My sister was the last to go-three years ago this December having succumbed to colon cancer.
Not to take up anymore cyberspace talking about my Granny as we all have stories to tell but, some of the fondest memories I have of her was when she would stay with us at night when I was a kid. They only lived about 50 yards away but she was afraid of my Grandpaw(as we called him) when he drank so she'd stay with us. We'd share the back bedroom where there were two bunk beds and she loved to scare me. We didn't have "indoor plumbing" then and the outhouse was about 30 yards or so away. I had to go take a leak one night and she said, "You're not going out there as dark as it is, are you". Sure, I said. "You'd better watch for Bloody Bones. I thought I heard him just a little bit ago so, you'd best hurry." Now, I already had in my mind what this guy looked like-bulging red eyes, little meat on his bones, mostly moss, finger tips bleeding and body moss covered and about nine feet tall. Did I go out that night? Nope-she was a real trip.
