I was looking through some old work of mine today, and came across this picture that I made in 1982. It was the first b/w print I made that I thought was really good, I had been struggling with my printing up to that point!
Inky noir shadows, headless amputated people, mysterious graffiti, more questions than answers, and plenty of room to maneuver for your imagination. Just the way I like it. If you can't spare a moment to stop and think some, then just keep walking, nothing for you to see here...
And there's a face of another person in a newsstand across the platform between the train cars that I didn't notice at the time, but discovered when I was printing in the darkroom. Somehow, the things I miss, but the camera records that I discover later are part of the reason I love making photographs. Thanks for the nice comments.
Not sure there was much to like about the NYC subway system in the early eighties, except maybe for making pictures. Not sure I know those references, Joseph Conrad? Never read him, maybe I should, and Goetz? Do you mean Bernie? Anyway, thanks for the comments.
