Jacasia

I had five minutes to photograph Jacasia during a crazy workshop. She's eleven years old, and her goal is to become a medical researcher to find a cure for pediatric AIDS, because those kids are suffering from choices made by others.

So many times I hear that it's not possible to get a subject to open up in a short amount of time. I have to disagree. It just depends on how much of yourself you're willing to give.

She looks a very thoughtful girl. Older than her years, perhaps - she looks as if she'll achieve what she wants to do...

She has the look of the researcher that has already conquered the virus, all that pride and strength. It feels like she gave you five minutes because she was too busy with her research...
